#40 Bailey
Hello there. I hope everything has been going well!
(I'm sick with a common cold!)
But I will start my work tomorrow so I would like to spend the very last day of my vacation through sleeping and writing. As usual, a lot of things have happened but one of them was… raising a puppy.
I was excited to buy my first dog food as a first-time pet owner. I could admit that I was not interested in dogs or pets prior to this. I was the person who doesn’t understand why humans will spend a thousand pesos for vet care and other necessities until I became a fur parent myself. Hahaha.
So here’s the beginning of the story…
Around the second week of July, my uncle informed us that he will drop a puppy at our house in Mandaluyong. He told us that the puppy will be picked up by my aunt the next morning because he found it difficult to endure the heavy traffic to my aunt’s house and was concerned about the puppy getting tired. So you see, that puppy wasn’t supposed to be ours, to begin with.
Everyone was excited as my uncle arrived and asked my parents to look after it. The female puppy has a short brown coat, and we were told that she was born on the 20th of May. She has an aloof attitude, but she became friendly to all of us.
It was already late in the evening and everyone needed to catch some Zzzs, but my mother (not knowing where the puppy should sleep) put her on our roof deck with a shed. The puppy cried all night because she was alone in the dark. Unfortunately, we don’t have an intended space for an animal in our home.
The next morning, she was excited to see all of us. We didn’t remember what we fed her, but I could only remember my Mom searching for what would be the safest thing to give to a puppy. We had no idea about dogs in general.
Knowing that she will be picked by my aunt soon, I and my little cousin took selfies with the puppy and posted them on social media. Not long after, my uncle sent my mother a message asking if we would like to adopt the pet instead! LOL. Maybe the Facebook post made him think that we like the puppy. He just told us that he will bring another puppy for my aunt.
Everything was an unexpected adoption! Hahaha.

But Bailey is very important to us. For some reason, she made everyone happy and excited to see her home. She eventually earned a spot in my very own bedroom because she cried all the time whenever she was left alone to sleep. Someone told me to crate train her but at that time, I didn’t know and I have no problems with her sleeping in my bed because she already knows how to pee and poop in the right place. She’s also clingy to me since the very first day, maybe because I was the first one who approached her at the box where my uncle put her. With that being said, everyone in my house concluded that I should be the owner of Bailey!

I didn’t have a stable job at that time, as I was working as a freelance architect while looking for corporate jobs. Nevertheless, I found a way to give her the best vet care (complete shots with monthly parasite preventives) and provided her with quality food and vitamins with the help of my parents. After all, Bailey is part of our family! I also believed that owning a pet is a lifetime commitment, and as responsible owners, we should do everything to provide for our pet’s needs so they will have a longer and happier life.

As she completed her shots, I usually leash-trained and walked Bailey outside. It was quite difficult at the beginning, but she eventually learned afterward. But I will have a job starting tomorrow, so as Bailey’s owner, I asked my little brother if he could walk my dog while I was gone and I’ll pay him instead. Lol. Being a fur parent truly comes with a price. Hahaha.
